Common problems include ignition faults, failing pumps, or worn internal components. Replacement parts can also become harder to source for older models. At that stage, replacing the boiler often makes more sense than continuing to repair it.

Older boilers were built to very different efficiency standards. Many operate at significantly lower efficiency than modern condensing boilers.

Manufacturers eventually stop producing parts for older boiler models. Engineers can sometimes locate replacements, but availability becomes unpredictable and costs increase.

When a major component fails and the part is no longer readily available, replacement often becomes the most practical solution.

A gas boiler that is over ten to fifteen years old is approaching the point where replacement becomes sensible.

Even if it still runs, efficiency is usually far lower than modern systems. Upgrading at the right time avoids unexpected breakdowns and ensures the heating system is ready for future winters.
